Ermittlern gelingt Identifizierung von Wehrmachtssoldaten 77 Jahre nach Tod
Rund 77 Jahre nach seinem Tod ist Ermittlern in Rheinland-Pfalz die Identifizierung eines Wehrmachtssoldaten gelungen, dessen Überreste im Januar 2022 zufällig in einem Feldgrab entdeckt worden war. Es handele sich um den Obergefreiten Johann O., der laut Personalblatt am 14. März 1945 in Neuwied im Gefecht gefallen war, teilte die Polizei der Stadt am Freitag mit. Seine Identität konnte nun durch einen DNA-Abgleich mit dem Ergut von Verwandten bestätigt werden.
O. wurde den Angaben zufolge 1907 geboren, er war Dachdeckermeister aus Düsseldorf und diente seit 1940 als Soldat. Im Januar 2022 wurde das Feldgrab bei Vorarbeiten zu einer Deichsanierung in Neuwied-Engers gefunden. Dort wurde auch eine Erkennungsmarke gefunden, die allerdings nur noch zum Teil lesbar war. Die Überprüfung bei der Wehrmachtsauskunftsstelle beim Bundesarchiv Berlin blieb zunächst erfolglos. Als dann aber die Einheit des Mannes bestimmt werden konnte, war eine erneute Überprüfung in Berlin erfolgreich.
Eine Anfrage beim Stadtarchiv Düsseldorf hatte ebenfalls Erfolg, so dass noch zwei lebende Neffen ausfindig gemacht werden konnten. Diese konnten sich an ihren vermissten Onkel erinnern und gaben DNA-Proben ab. O.s DNA konnte seinen Verwandten zweifelsfrei zugeordnet werden. Ein weiterer Onkel der Neffen fiel bereits 1941 beim Russlandfeldzug.
Neben O. waren in dem Grab noch drei weitere Wehrmachtssoldaten bestattet. Ihre Identifizierung werde nach jetziger Einschätzung nicht mehr gelingen, weil es keine weiteren Anknüpfungspunkte gebe.
