20 mutmaßliche IS-Kämpfer nach Erdbeben in Syrien aus Gefängnis geflohen
Nach dem schweren Erdbeben im türkisch-syrischen Grenzgebiet sind bei einer Gefängnismeuterei in Syrien 20 mutmaßliche Kämpfer der Terrororganisation Islamischer Staat (IS) entkommen. Dies erfuhr die Nachrichtenagentur AFP am Montagabend aus dem Militärgefängnis von Rajo nahe der Grenze zur Türkei. "Nach dem Erdbeben, von dem auch Rajo betroffen war, haben die Gefangenen einen Aufstand gestartet und Teile des Gefängnisses unter ihre Kontrolle gebracht."
Rund 20 Insassen seien während der Meuterei geflohen, hieß es weiter. "Wir glauben, dass es sich um IS-Kämpfer handelt." In dem Militärgefängnis von Rajo werden etwa 2000 Häftlinge festgehalten, rund 1300 von ihnen sind mutmaßliche IS-Kämpfer. Zudem werden dort kurdische Kämpfer festgehalten.
Das Erdbeben der Stärke 7,8 hatte am frühen Morgen das türkisch-syrischen Grenzgebiet erschüttert. Mehr als 3800 Menschen wurden getötet, davon mehr als 1400 in Syrien. In der Nacht zum Dienstag wurde überall fieberhaft nach Überlebenden gesucht. Die Opferzahl droht weiter zu steigen.
