Tausende protestieren in zahlreichen französischen Städten gegen Polizeigewalt
In zahlreichen französischen Städten sind am Samstag Menschen gegen Polizeigewalt und Rassismus auf die Straße gegangen. Zu den mehr als hundert Demonstrationen, zu denen ein breites Bündnis aus Gewerkschaften, linkspolitischen und zivilgesellschaftlichen Gruppen aufgerufen hatte, wurden bis zu 30.000 Teilnehmer erwartet. Begleitet wurden die Proteste von einem massiven Sicherheitsaufgebot.
In Toulouse, wo die Demonstrationen bereits am Vormittag starteten, versammelten sich laut der Stadtverwaltung etwa 600 Menschen. Sie trugen Banner mit der Aufschrift "Gegen systematischen Rassismus" und "Die Polizei verstümmelt, die Polizei mordet". Im südfranzösischen Perpignan kamen laut einem Reporter der Nachrichtenagentur AFP 150 Demonstranten zusammen. Am Nachmittag startete dann ein großer Protestzug in Paris.
Im Juni hatte der Tod des 17-jährigen Nahel, der bei einer Verkehrskontrolle im Pariser Vorort Nanterre von einem Polizisten erschossen wurde, eine Welle von Protesten gegen Polizeigewalt und Rassismus ausgelöst. Am Rand von Unruhen in Marseille wiederum war ein 22-Jähriger durch einen Gummigeschoss der Polizei schwer verletzt worden. Daraufhin wurden Ermittlungen gegen vier Polizisten eingeleitet.
