Betrugsprozess gegen Kryptoplattform-Gründer Sam Bankman-Fried beginnt
In New York beginnt am Dienstag (9.30 Uhr Ortszeit; 15.30 Uhr MESZ) der Betrugsprozess gegen den Gründer der insolventen Kryptowährungsplattform FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried. Die US-Bundesjustiz wirft dem einst als Krypto-Wunderkind gefeierten 31-Jährigen vor, Kunden um Milliarden von Dollar betrogen und Investoren in die Irre geführt zu haben. Bei einer Verurteilung droht ihm eine lange Gefängnisstrafe. Die damals weltweit zweitgrößte Kryptobörse FTX war im vergangenen November Pleite gegangen, was ein Erdbeben in der Krypto-Welt auslöste.
Bankman-Fried - Spitzname "SBF" - hatte zuvor wie kein anderer den Aufstieg von Kryptowährungen hin zu einer vermeintlich seriösen Investition verkörpert. Das Geschäftskonstrukt brach jedoch zusammen, als bekannt wurde, dass FTX Kundengelder nutzte, um den ebenfalls von Bankman-Fried gegründeten Krypto-Investmentfonds Alameda Research zu stützen. Bankman-Fried wurde später auf den Bahamas festgenommen und an die USA ausgeliefert.
