Thailands Verfassungsgericht entscheidet über dauerhafte Amtsenthebung Prayuts
Das thailändische Verfassungsgericht verkündet am Freitag (10.00 Uhr MESZ), ob der vorübergehend suspendierte Ministerpräsident Prayut Chan-O-Cha dauerhaft seines Amtes enthoben wird. Das Gericht hatte ihn im vergangenen Monat vorerst suspendiert, seither saß er als Verteidigungsminister im Kabinett. Das Gericht beriet derweil über eine Klage der Opposition, wonach der mit einem Putsch im Jahr 2014 an die Macht gekommene Regierungschef das Ende seiner von der Verfassung auf acht Jahre beschränkten Amtszeit bereits erreicht hat.
Die Anhänger Prayuts argumentieren, dass Thailands neue Verfassung erst seit 2017 in Kraft ist. Sein Mandat zähle somit erst seit 2017 oder sogar erst seit der Parlamentswahl im Jahr 2019. Sollten die Richter dieser Logik folgen, könnte Prayut bis 2025 oder 2027 im Amt bleiben - wenn er die im März kommenden Jahres geplante nächste Parlamentswahl gewinnt.
