Barenboim tritt als Generalmusikdirektor von Berliner Staatsoper zurück
Der Generalmusikdirektor der Berliner Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Daniel Barenboim, hat nach rund 30 Jahren aus gesundheitlichen Gründen seinen Rücktritt bekanntgegeben. "Leider hat sich mein Gesundheitszustand im letzten Jahr deutlich verschlechtert - ich kann die Leistung nicht mehr erbringen, die zu Recht von einem Generalmusikdirektor verlangt wird", erklärte der 80-Jährige am Freitag in Berlin. Er werde sein Amt daher zum Ende des Monats am 31. Januar abgeben.
Kulturstaatsministerin Claudia Roth (Grüne) bedauerte den Rücktritt und wünschte ihm gute Besserung. Barenboims Tätigkeit an der Staatsoper sei ein "Glücksfall" für Berlin und Deutschland gewesen, erklärte sie in der Hauptstadt. Dieser habe das Haus in dieser Zeit "zu Weltruhm geführt".
Barenboim ist seit 1992 Generalmusikdirektor der Staatsoper, die mit dieser eng verbundene und in der Oper residierende Staatskapelle hatte ihn 2000 zum Chefdirigenten auf Lebenszeit gewählt. Der 1942 in Argentinien geborene Musiker gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Künstler im Bereich klassischer und zeitgenössischen Musik. Er arbeitete unter anderem auch an vielen anderen großen Konzerthäusern in aller Welt - so in London, Wien und Paris.
Barenboim bat nach eigenen Angaben den Berliner Kultursenator Klaus Lederer (Linke) um die Auflösung seines Vertrags zu Ende Januar. Der Intendant der Staatsoper, Matthias Schulz, dankte Barenboim. "Seit über 30 Jahren hat er seine unerschöpfliche Kraft als Künstlerpersönlichkeit mit weltweiter Ausstrahlung diesem Haus samt seiner Staatskapelle Berlin zugutekommen lassen", erklärte er. Er wünsche Barenboim "das Allerbeste".
