Sänger Michael Schulte ratlos über schlechtes deutsches Abschneiden bei ESC
Der selbst schon beim Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) erfolgreiche Sänger Michael Schulte ist angesichts des wiederholten Scheiterns deutscher Teilnehmer bei den jüngsten Ausgaben des Musikwettbewerbs ratlos. Die diesjährigen deutschen Künstler der Gruppe Lord of the Lost hätten "eine tolle Show abgeliefert", sagte der 33-Jährige in einem Podcast des Norddeutschen Rundfunks (NDR) laut Mitteilung vom Mittwoch. "Ich habe davor sogar gesagt, damit werden wir nicht Letzter." Doch genauso sei es dann gekommen.
Er sei immer der Meinung gewesen, dass es beim ESC helfe, aufzufallen und aus dem Teilnehmerfeld herauszustechen, fügte Schulte im Interview hinzu. Die Bedingung hätten Lord of the Lost zweifellos erfüllt. "Aber vielleicht haben auch zu wenig Metalfans zugeschaut, oder den Leuten war das zu krass."
Dass das zuletzt schlechte Abschneiden deutscher Künstler auf eine generelle Abneigung des Publikums gegen Deutschland zurückzuführen sei, schloss Schulte aus. Andernfalls hätte seinerzeit Lena Meyer-Landrut 2010 nicht gewonnen, und er selbst wäre 2018 beim ESC nicht Vierter geworden, sagte der Musiker.
