"Girl from Ipanema"-Sängerin Astrud Gilberto gestorben
Die brasilianische Sängerin Astrud Gilberto, deren Interpretation von "The Girl from Ipanema" zu einem weltweiten Hit wurde, ist tot. Wie ihre Familie mitteilte, starb sie am Dienstag im Alter von 83 Jahren. Laut dem Nachrichtenportal G1 starb Astrud Gilberto bei sich zu Hause in der US-Metropole Philadelphia.
Ihre Großmutter sei "heute zu einem Stern" an der Seite ihres Großvaters João Gilberto geworden, erklärte Enkelin Sofia Gilberto in den Online-Netzwerken. Astrud Gilberto war die erste Frau des Bossa-Nova-Pioniers, der bereits 2019 im Alter von 88 Jahren in Rio de Janeiro gestorben war.
Als sie "The Girl von Ipanema" sang, hatte sie noch kaum professionelle Musikerfahrung. Dennoch sorgte sie in den 60er gemeinsam mit dem US-Saxofonisten Stan Getz dafür, dass die englischsprachige Version des brasilianischen Musikstücks von Tom Jobim und Vinícius de Moraes zu einem der weltweit bekanntesten Songs des Bossa Nova wurde. Mit dieser Version wurde die Sängerin auch als erste Brasilianerin mit einem Grammy ausgezeichnet.
Im Laufe ihrer Musik-Karriere nahm "die Königin des Bossa Nova" insgesamt 19 Alben auf. 2002 zog sie sich jedoch komplett aus dem Musikgeschäft zurück, um sich der Malerei und dem Tierschutz zu widmen. Die letzten Jahre verbrachte sie in Philadelphia.
