Britischer Punk-Künstler Jamie Reid im Alter von 76 Jahren gestorben
Der für sein Plattencover des Sex-Pistols-Songs "God Save the Queen" berühmte britische Künstler Jamie Reid ist tot. Der Punk-Künstler, der mit etlichen seiner Designs für die legendäre britische Punkrock-Band Kunstgeschichte schrieb, starb im Alter von 76 Jahren, wie sein Galerist John Marchant am Mittwoch der Nachrichtenagentur AFP mitteilte. Reids Werk sei "in die Kulturlandschaft eingegangen".
"Künstler, Bilderstürmer, Anarchist, Punk, Hippie, Rebell und Romantiker", hieß es in der Erklärung der John Marchant Gallery im südenglischen Brighton. Jamie hinterlasse "eine geliebte Tochter Rowan, eine Enkelin Rose und ein enormes Vermächtnis".
Mit seinem unverwechselbaren Stil prägte Reid die Ära der Punk-Bewegung. Viele seiner Bilder wurden zu deren Symbol und hängen heute in einigen der bedeutendsten Museen der Welt, darunter der Tate Britain und dem New Yorker Museum of Modern Art.
Bei dem berühmten Cover der Single "God Save the Queen" von 1977 überklebte Reid die Augen und den Mund von Königin Elizabeth II. mit dem Namen der Band und dem Songtitel aus ausgeschnittenen Buchstaben. Auf dem im gleichen Jahr veröffentlichten Album "Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols", nutzte er eine ähnliche Technik vor gelbem und rosa Hintergrund.
