Italienischer Sänger Toto Cutugno stirbt im Alter von 80 Jahren
Der mit seinem Hit "Un italiano vero" international berühmt gewordene italienische Sänger Toto Cutugno ist tot. Cutugno sei am Dienstag in Mailand nach längerer Krankheit im Alter von 80 Jahren gestorben, teilte sein Manager Danilo Mancuso laut der Nachrichtenagentur Ansa mit. Der in der mittelitalienischen Region Toskana geborene Cutugno gewann im Jahr 1990 mit seinem Song "Insieme: 1992" als zweiter Italiener der Geschichte den Eurovision Song Contest.
Italiens Ministerpräsidentin Giorgia Meloni würdigte Cutugno im Online-Dienst X (ehemals Twitter) in Anspielung auf die Bedeutung seines bekanntesten Lieds als "echten Italiener". Mit dem 1983 veröffentlichten "Un italiano vero" stürmte Cutugno die Hitparaden in Italien, war aber auch unter anderem im deutschsprachigen Raum, Frankreich, Israel und Südkorea erfolgreich. Der Songtext und das auf den Champs-Elysées in Paris gedrehte Video spielen mit zahlreichen Klischees über Italien und die Italiener.
Cutugno schrieb vor allem in den 1970er Jahren mehrere Lieder für französische Sängerinnen und Sänger, darunter Michel Sardou und Mireille Mathieu. Als Sänger nahm er insgesamt 15 Mal am in Italien enorm einflussreichen Sanremo-Musikfestival teil.
