176. Volksfest auf dem Cannstatter Wasen in Stuttgart eröffnet
In Stuttgart hat am Freitag das zweitgrößte Volksfest Deutschlands begonnen. Oberbürgermeister Frank Nopper (CDU) eröffnete das Fest auf dem Cannstatter Wasen mit dem traditionellen Fassanstich. Das 176. Cannstatter Volksfest in Baden-Württembergs Landeshauptstadt geht noch bis zum 8. Oktober.
Im vergangenen Jahr zog es mehr als drei Millionen Besucherinnen und Besucher an. Das Cannstatter Volksfest wurde im Jahr 1818 zum ersten Mal gefeiert. In Deutschland ist nur das Münchner Oktoberfest größer.
Die Stuttgarter Polizei kündigte verschiedene Präventionsmaßnahmen an. Dabei sollen vor allem junge Festbesucher im Fokus stehen. Diese will die Polizei über die Folgen übermäßigen Alkoholkonsums und die Risiken von Alkoholmissbrauch informieren. Alkohol spiele bei der Gewaltbereitschaft dieser Zielgruppe eine "erhebliche Rolle", erklärte die Polizei.
Beamte in Uniform und in Zivil sollen auf dem Festgelände unterwegs sein. Schon bei der Anreise müssten erkennbar Betrunkene damit rechnen, kontrolliert zu werden. Die Polizei will auch auf den "immer wieder vorkommenden Missbrauch von Ausweispapieren" achten und im Umfeld des Volksfests den Verkehr kontrollieren.
