Elton-John-Sammlung erzielt bei Versteigerungen mehr als 20 Millionen Dollar
Erinnerungsstücke und Kunstwerke aus dem Besitz des britischen Popstars Elton John haben bei einer Reihe von Versteigerungen mehr als 20 Millionen Dollar (rund 18,5 Millionen Euro) eingebracht. Damit fiel der Erlös der mehr als 900 angebotenen Objekte bei den insgesamt acht Versteigerungsterminen mehr als doppelt so hoch aus wie der Schätzwert, wie das Auktionshaus Christie's am Donnerstag in New York mitteilte.
Verkauft wurden unter anderem Outfits, die der Sänger von Hits wie "Your Song", "Rocket Man" und "I'm Still Standing" bei Konzerten getragen hatte. Silberne Hochplateau-Stiefel mit den roten Buchstaben "E" und "J" an den Seiten erzielten einen Preis von 94.500 Dollar. Eine Sonnenbrille, ein Markenzeichen Elton Johns, wurde für 22.680 Dollar verkauft.
Mehr als 200.000 Dollar brachte ein Konzertflügel des 76-jährigen Sängers ein - und mehr als 440.000 Dollar ein Cabrio der Luxusmarke Bentley.
Versteigert wurden auch zahlreiche Kunstwerke aus dem Besitz des Popstars. Ein Triptychon des Street-Art-Künstlers Banksy erzielte fast zwei Millionen Dollar. Versteigert wurden auch Fotografien etwa von den Starfotografen Helmut Newton und Robert Mapplethorpe und Werke von Andy Warhol und Keith Haring. Die meisten Objekte stammten aus der luxuriösen Residenz des Sängers in Atlanta im US-Bundesstaat Georgia, die vor kurzem verkauft wurde.
