Gericht in Moskau verlängert Haft für US-Journalist Gershkovich bis Ende Juni
Ein Gericht in Moskau hat die Untersuchungshaft des wegen Spionagevorwürfen inhaftierten US-Journalisten Evan Gershkovich bis zum 30. Juni verlängert. Die Entscheidung wurde am Dienstag vom Pressedienst der Moskauer Gerichte im Onlinedienst Telegram veröffentlicht.
"Diese Entscheidung ist besonders schmerzlich, da es diese Woche ein Jahr her ist, dass Evan festgenommen und zu Unrecht inhaftiert wurde", sagte US-Botschafterin Lynne Tracy nach der Anhörung im Gericht. "Die Anschuldigungen gegen Evan sind absolut falsch", betonte sie.
Der "Wall Street Journal"-Reporter Gershkovich war Ende März vergangenen Jahres während einer Recherchereise im Ural vom Geheimdienst FSB festgenommen worden. Gershkovich wird Spionage vorgeworfen, ihm drohen bis zu 20 Jahre Haft. Der Reporter, seine Familie, sein Arbeitgeber und die US-Behörden weisen die Anschuldigungen zurück.
Washington wirft Moskau vor, US-Staatsbürger zu verhaften, um sie als Faustpfand zur Freilassung russischer Spione im Ausland zu benutzen. Gershkovich ist im Lefortowo-Gefängnis inhaftiert, wo er eine Zelle mit einem Mithäftling teilt. Er bekommt eine Stunde Hofgang pro Tag, Freunde schicken ihm Obst und Gemüse.
