Regisseur Jean-Luc Godard nahm Beihilfe zum Suizid in Anspruch
Der am Dienstag gestorbene französisch-schweizerische Star-Regisseur Jean-Luc Godard hat Beihilfe zum Suizid erhalten. "Herr Godard hat die in der Schweiz legale Hilfe zu einem freiwilligen Abschied in Anspruch genommen", teilte Patrick Jeanneret, ein Berater der Familie, am Dienstag mit und bestätigte damit einen Bericht der französischen Zeitung "Libération". Grund dafür seien seine zahlreichen Krankheiten gewesen.
Godards Familie hatte zuvor mitgeteilt, dass der Regisseur zu Hause in der Schweiz im Kreis seiner Angehörigen gestorben war. Eine offizielle Trauerfeier ist nicht geplant.
Zufällig war Sterbehilfe in Frankreich am Dienstag ein großes Thema, da der Ethikrat sich erstmals vorsichtig für aktive Sterbehilfe unter strengen Auflagen ausgesprochen hatte. Präsident Emmanuel Macron kündigte eine gesellschaftliche Debatte dazu an, die im kommenden Jahr in ein neues Gesetz münden könnte.
In Frankreich ist aktive Sterbehilfe verboten. Ärzte können Todkranke im Endstadium aber mit Medikamenten tief betäuben, bis der Tod eintritt. Godard wurde 1930 in Paris geboren und hatte beide Staatsbürgerschaften. Er lebte seit den 70er Jahren in der Schweiz.
