EU-Kommission empfiehlt voraussichtlich Streichen von Fördergeldern für Ungarn
Die EU-Kommission wird den Mitgliedstaaten am Mittwoch voraussichtlich empfehlen, Ungarn erstmals Milliardenhilfen zu streichen. Dabei geht es um 7,5 Milliarden Euro an zugesagten Fördergeldern. Die EU-Kommission wirft Ungarn Korruption und massive Probleme bei der öffentlichen Auftragsvergabe vor. Sie hatte deshalb im April ein Verfahren gegen das EU-Land unter dem neuen Rechtsstaatsmechanismus eingeleitet. Damit können einem Land Fördergelder gekürzt werden, wenn Schäden für den EU-Haushalt drohen.
Von Budapest angekündigte Reformschritte scheinen Brüssel nicht auszureichen. Das Streichen der Mittel könnten die EU-Finanzminister am 6. Dezember theoretisch beschließen. Im Rechtsstaatsstreit hält Brüssel zudem von Budapest beantragte Mittel aus dem Corona-Hilfsfonds in Höhe von rund 5,8 Milliarden Euro zurück.
