Rechtsextremist bekennt sich Angriffs von El Paso mit 23 Toten für schuldig
Ein weißer Rechtsextremist hat sich vor Gericht des Anschlags von El Paso im US-Bundesstaat Texas 2019 für schuldig bekannt, bei dem in der mehrheitlich von Latinos bewohnten Stadt 23 Menschen getötet wurden. In einer Anhörung vor einem Bundesgericht bekannte sich Patrick Crusius am Mittwoch laut Berichten lokaler Fernsehsender in insgesamt 90 Anklagepunkten für schuldig, darunter tödliche Hassverbrechen.
Die Anwälte des 24-Jährigen hatten zuvor mit der Bundesstaatsanwaltschaft ausgehandelt, dass diese im Gegenzug für das Schuldeingeständnis die Forderung nach der Todesstrafe fallen lässt. Allerdings muss sich ihr Mandant auch noch vor einem Gericht des Bundesstaates Texas verantworten. In diesem Prozess hat die Staatsanwaltschaft die Todesstrafen-Forderung nicht ausgeschlossen.
Der weiße Rechtsextremist hatte vor seiner Tat 2019 ein Online-Manifest veröffentlicht, in dem er vor einer "hispanischen Invasion" warnte. Nach seiner Festnahme sagte er laut Polizei-Angaben aus, sein Angriff in einem Einkaufszentrum der texanischen Grenzstadt habe sich gezielt gegen Mexikaner gerichtet.
