US-Wirtschaft schafft im Mai überraschend viele neue Jobs
Der US-Arbeitsmarkt hat sich trotz einer Reihe von Leitzinserhöhungen erneut überraschend robust gezeigt. Die größte Volkswirtschaft der Welt schuf im Mai 339.000 neue Jobs und damit deutlich mehr als erwartet, wie das Arbeitsministerium in Washington am Freitag mitteilte. Die Arbeitslosenquote stieg gleichwohl leicht um 0,3 Punkte auf 3,7 Prozent an.
Beobachter hatten mit rund 190.000 neuen Jobs im Mai gerechnet. Dies wurde nun weit übertroffen. Im Mai entstanden zudem deutlich mehr neue Arbeitsplätze als im März (217.000) und April (294.000).
Die guten Arbeitsmarktzahlen dürften der US-Notenbank Fed weiteres Kopfzerbrechen bereiten. Die Federal Reserve hofft auf eine Abkühlung der Wirtschaft, um die Inflation in den Griff zu bekommen. Eine niedrige Arbeitslosigkeit treibt aber die Löhne in die Höhe, weil Arbeitgeber um Arbeitskräfte ringen. Das wiederum könnte die Inflation anheizen.
Die Fed hat im Kampf gegen die hohe Inflation seit März 2022 zehn Mal in Folge den Leitzins erhöht. Bei ihrer nächsten Sitzung übernächste Woche könnten die Währungshüter eine Pause bei den Zinsanhebungen beschließen. Derzeit liegt der Leitzins zwischen 5,0 und 5,25 Prozent. Die Inflationsrate ist zuletzt auf 4,9 Prozent zurückgegangen.
