Eurozone rutscht zum Jahresbeginn in die Rezession
Die Wirtschaft in der Eurozone ist zum Jahresbeginn in die Rezession gerutscht: Die Konjunktur in den Ländern der Währungsunion schrumpfte zusammen genommen im ersten Quartal des Jahres um 0,1 Prozent verglichen mit dem Vorquartal, wie die Statistikbehörde Eurostat am Donnerstag mitteilte. Da dies das zweite negative Quartal in Folge nach einem Rückgang von ebenfalls 0,1 Prozent zum Jahresende 2022 war, ist nun die Rede von einer technischen Rezession.
Damit verläuft die Entwicklung in der Eurozone analog zum wirtschaftlichen Schwergewicht Deutschland. Das Statistische Bundesamt hatte Ende Mai seine erste Schätzung zum Wachstum im ersten Quartal von 0,0 Prozent auf minus 0,3 Prozent nach unten revidiert. Damit verzeichnete die deutsche Wirtschaft ebenfalls zwei negative Quartale in Folge. Grund dafür war vor allem die Konsumzurückhaltung wegen der hohen Inflation.
Auch Eurostat revidierte nun seine Zahlen - was zum großen Teil an der Entwicklung in der Bundesrepublik lag. Zuvor war die Statistikbehörde für die Eurozone noch von einem leichten Wachstum von 0,1 Prozent im letzten Quartal 2022 und von 0,2 Prozent im ersten Quartal 2023 ausgegangen.
In der gesamten EU stieg die Wirtschaftskraft im ersten Quartal leicht um 0,1 Prozent. Den höchsten Anstieg verzeichnete Polen mit 3,8 Prozent Wachstum, gefolgt von Luxemburg und Portugal. Am unteren Ende der Skala stand Irland mit einem Rückgang um 4,6 Prozent.
