Umsatz mit gentechnikfreien Lebensmitteln im vergangenen Jahr deutlich gestiegen
Verbraucherinnen und Verbraucher greifen immer häufiger zu gentechnikfreien Lebensmitteln. Der Umsatz mit Nahrungsmitteln und Getränken mit dem entsprechenden Label stieg im vergangenen Jahr um 8,8 Prozent auf 17,4 Milliarden Euro, wie die Funke-Zeitungen am Donnerstag unter Berufung auf den Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik (VLOG) berichteten.
Den größten Anteil am Verkauf machten Milch und Milchprodukte mit 68 Prozent aus, wie die Zeitungen weiter berichteten. Danach folgten Geflügelfleischprodukte mit 20 Prozent, Eier mit neun Prozent und schließlich sonstige Produkte mit drei Prozent des Umsatzes.
Das Siegel "Ohne Gentechnik" existiert seit 15 Jahren, eingeführt wurde es damals vom Bundeslandwirtschaftsministerium. Vergeben wird es vom VLOG, der auch die Einhaltung der Kriterien kontrolliert. Dazu gehört unter anderem gentechnikfreies Futter für die Nutztiere in einem bestimmten Zeitraum vor der Schlachtung.
