Zahl der Studierenden an privaten Hochschulen nimmt kontinuierlich zu
Die Zahl der Studierenden an privaten Hochschulen hat in den vergangenen zehn Jahren deutlich zugenommen. Im Wintersemester 2021/2022 studierten laut einer am Dienstag veröffentlichten Studie des arbeitgebernahen Instituts der Deutschen Wirtschaft (IW) rund 343.000 Menschen an privaten Hochschulen - und damit fast drei Mal so viele wie im Wintersemester 2011/2012.
Auch der Anteil an allen Studierenden stieg seit 2010 stetig an und erreichte seinen Höhepunkt im Jahr 2021 mit fast zwölf Prozent. 2010 hatten die Studierenden an privaten Hochschulen nicht einmal fünf Prozent ausgemacht, zeigen die Forschenden in ihrer Studie und erklären: Die privaten Hochschulen punkten "mit viel Praxisnähe, mit engmaschigerer und intensiverer Betreuung als die staatlichen Anbieter und mit Flexibilität". Wer neben der Arbeit studieren wolle, könne das an privaten Hochschulen von zu Hause aus, abends und am Wochenende machen.
Das zeige auch die Altersstruktur an privaten Hochschulen. 27 Prozent der Studierenden dort sind laut IW über 30 Jahre alt - zehn Prozent mehr als an öffentlichen Unis. Am häufigsten sind die Studentinnen und Studenten an privaten Hochschulen in wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Fächern eingeschrieben, gefolgt von Psychologie und Sozialwesen. Fast die Hälfte der Menschen (46 Prozent) will sich der Studie zufolge auf eine Selbstständigkeit vorbereiten.
Für die Studie befragte das IW fast 1200 Studierende und Hochschulzugangsberechtigte in ganz Deutschland, die sowohl an privaten als auch an öffentlichen Hochschulen oder noch gar nicht studierten. Studierenden öffentlicher Hochschulen sei die private Alternative mehrheitlich zu teuer (90 Prozent). 61 Prozent halten die "Konkurrenz für elitär" und über die Hälfte fühle sich "nicht genug informiert".
