Studierende mahnen Umsetzung geplanter Bafög-Reform an
Vertreter der Studentinnen und Studenten in Deutschland warnen davor, die geplante Reform der Bafög-Ausbildungsförderung an knappen Kassen und der Schuldenbremse scheitern zu lassen. "Es ist höchste Zeit", hieß es am Dienstag in einem Aufruf des freien Zusammenschlusses von Student*innenschaften (fzs) an Bundesbildungsministerin Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP). Hintergrund sind Pläne für eine Kürzung im Bildungsetat um 200 Millionen Euro.
Stark-Watzinger solle der Aufforderung des Haushaltsausschusses folgen und dafür veranschlagte 150 Millionen Euro "vollumfänglich in die Reform des Bafög investieren", hieß es in der fzs-Erklärung. Das Geld soll nach der bisherigen Planung in die Erhöhung der Bafög-Bedarfssätze zum Wintersemester 2024/25 fließen. "Alles andere wäre ein weiterer Tiefschlag für die vielen Studierenden, die von der Inflation und massiven Mietsteigerungen betroffenen sind", warnte der fzs.
Die Studierenden verwiesen auch auf die ohnehin bereits laufende Klage gegen zu niedrige Bafög-Sätze vor dem Bundesverfassungsgericht (BVerfG), die von fzs und der Gewerkschaft Erziehung und Wissenschaft (GEW) unterstützt wird. "Das BVerfG wird in unserem Sinne urteilen", zeigte sich fzs-Vorstandsmitglied Niklas Röpke zuversichtlich. Er wandte sich gegen eine "dogmatischen Austeritätspolitik" von Bundesfinanzminister Christian Lindner (FDP).
