Österreich setzt allgemeine Corona-Impfpflicht aus
Österreich hat die seit Anfang Februar geltende Corona-Impfpflicht für alle Erwachsenen ausgesetzt. Die Impfpflicht sei angesichts der derzeit vorherrschenden Omikron-Variante des Coronavirus nicht verhältnismäßig, sagte Verfassungsministerin Karoline Edtstadler am Mittwoch in Wien. Mit dem Beschluss zur vorläufigen Suspendierung der Impfpflicht folgte die Regierung der Empfehlung einer Expertenkommission. Bei der Ansteckung mit der Omikron-Variante kommt es häufiger als bei anderen Virus-Varianten zu lediglich milden Krankheitsverläufen.
Österreich hatte als erstes EU-Land am 6. Februar eine allgemeine Corona-Impfpflicht in Kraft gesetzt. Sie galt für alle ab einem Alter von 18 Jahren. Die Kontrolle der Impfpflicht und die Verhängung von Geldstrafen sollten aber erst ab Mitte März beginnen, was nun hinfällig geworden ist.
