In Australien fehlen täglich 31.000 Menschen wegen Long Covid am Arbeitsplatz
In Australien sind laut einer Studie im Auftrag der Regierung allein in diesem Jahr bereits rund drei Millionen Arbeitstage wegen Long Covid ausgefallen. Jeden Tag fehlen wegen der langfristigen Beschwerden infolge einer Corona-Infektion 31.000 Beschäftige, heißt es in der Studie. Finanzminister Jim Chalmers sagte am Freitag, die Corona-Pandemie habe den Arbeitsmarkt "absolut erschüttert", und Long Covid tue dies "zunehmend".
In der Studie für das Finanzministerium wird Long Covid beschrieben als Krankheit, an der jemand noch Wochen oder länger nach seiner Corona-Infektion leidet. Häufige Symptome sind allgemeine Erschöpfung, Atembeschwerden, Brustschmerzen, Geschmacks- und Geruchsverlust oder Konzentrationsstörungen.
Laut einer in der Fachzeitschrift "The Lancet" veröffentlichten Studie aus den Niederlanden leidet jeder achte Corona-Infizierte Wochen oder Monate nach der Infektion an mindestens einem Symptom von Long Covid. Die australische Studie bestätigt dies - zwölf Prozent der Krankschreibungen wegen Corona insgesamt erfolgten demnach wegen Long Covid.
