Studie: Klimaziele der Industrieländer reichen für Pariser Abkommen nicht aus
Die Klimapläne der meisten Industrieländer reichen einer Studie zufolge nicht aus, um das 1,5-Grad-Ziel des Pariser Klimaabkommens zu erreichen. Die EU-Staaten verfolgten derzeit Klimaziele, die auf eine Erderwärmung von 2,3 oder 2,5 Grad bis Ende des Jahrhunderts hinauslaufen, heißt es in einem am Dienstag veröffentlichten Bericht der Website Paris Equity Check.
Die Website wertet die Klimaziele der einzelnen Länder, wissenschaftliche Daten und Erkenntnisse der Forschungsgruppe Climate Action Tracker aus. Die USA liegen demnach derzeit auf einem Kurs auf 3 bis 3,4 Grad Erwärmung. Erwartbar schlecht schneiden auch Länder wie China, Russland, die Türkei und Vietnam ab, deren Klimaanstrengungen auf eine Erwärmung von 5 Grad hinsteuern.
Das südliche Afrika hingegen ist derzeit noch auf gutem Weg, um das Klimaziel des Pariser Abkommens einzuhalten. "Diese Studie zeigt die Bedeutung der internationalen Hilfe und Zusammenarbeit, um zu verhindern, dass der globale Süden eine ebenso CO2-lastige Entwicklung nimmt wie der Norden", erklärte Yann Robiou de Pont von Paris Equity Check.
