Abstimmung unter EU-Ländern abgesagt: Renaturierungsgesetz erneut auf der Kippe
Kurz vor Ende der Legislaturperiode steht ein umstrittenes EU-Gesetz zur Wiederherstellung der Natur erneut auf der Kippe. Eine für Freitag geplante Abstimmung unter den EU-Ländern wurde in letzter Minute abgesagt, wie die belgische Ratspräsidentschaft mitteilte. Zuvor war unklar, ob die nötige Mehrheit für den eigentlich ausverhandelten Text zustande kommen würde.
Mit dem Gesetz will die EU die Umweltzerstörung in den Mitgliedstaaten zurückdrehen. Es verpflichtet die EU-Länder, bis 2030 mindestens je 20 Prozent der Flächen und Meeresgebiete wiederherzustellen und bis 2050 alle bedrohten Ökosysteme. Darauf hatten sich die Unterhändler der Mitgliedstaaten im November mit den Abgeordneten des Europaparlaments geeinigt.
Das Parlament hatte den Kompromiss Ende Februar trotz massiven Widerstands aus den Reihen der Konservativen abgesegnet, auch die finale Zustimmung der EU-Länder galt eigentlich als Formalie. Die Verhältnisse im Rat der Mitgliedstaaten sind jedoch knapp: Italien, die Niederlande und Schweden sind nach Diplomatenangaben gegen das Gesetz, Belgien, Polen, Finnland und Österreich enthielten sich.
Nach Diplomatenangaben signalisierte am Freitag auch Ungarn, gegen das Gesetz stimmen zu wollen - für die nötige qualifizierte Mehrheit von mindestens 14 Mitgliedstaaten und mindestens 65 Prozent der EU-Bevölkerung fehlte damit ein EU-Land. Die belgische Ratspräsidentschaft kündigte an, "zu gegebener Zeit" eine erneute Abstimmung anzusetzen.
