Frankreichs Präsident Macron zu Staatsbesuch in den USA eingetroffen
Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron ist am Dienstag (Ortszeit) zu einem mehrtägigen Staatsbesuch in den USA eingetroffen. Der Staatschef landete am Abend auf dem Militärflugplatz Joint Base Andrews nahe Washington, wie ein Journalist der Nachrichtenagentur AFP berichtete. Es ist der erste Staatsbesuch überhaupt, zu dem US-Präsident Joe Biden einlädt.
Vor gut einem Jahr hatte ein geplatzter Atom-U-Boot-Deal die Beziehungen zwischen den USA und Frankreich erheblich gestört. Durch den Ukraine-Krieg haben sich beide Länder wieder angenähert, allerdings gibt es weiterhin zahlreiche Konfliktthemen.
Insbesondere das US-Gesetz zur Inflationsbekämpfung (IRA), das massive Subventionen für die US-Wirtschaft vorsieht, hat in Europa Kritik ausgelöst. Wirtschaftsminister Robert Habeck (Grüne) kündigte am Dienstag eine "robuste Antwort" der EU auf die Subventionen der USA an.
Die USA sehen ihrerseits Macrons Haltung zu Russland mit Skepsis. Frankreichs Präsident betont regelmäßig, dass er den Kontakt zum russischen Präsidenten Wladimir Putin nicht abreißen lassen wolle. Energiepolitik wird bei dem Treffen der beiden Staatschefs ebenfalls ein wichtiges Thema sein, da Europa zunehmend Flüssiggas aus den USA importiert.
Macrons letzter Besuch im Weißen Haus liegt sechs Jahre zurück - damals hieß der Präsident noch Donald Trump. Auf dem aktuellen Programm stehen ein Besuch der US-Weltraumagentur Nasa, ein Staatsbankett und ein Kamingespräch im Oval Office. Am Freitag will Macron in New Orleans für französische Sprachprogramme werben.
