Ire Donohoe als Chef der Eurogruppe bestätigt
Der irische Finanzminister Paschal Donohoe bleibt für weitere zweieinhalb Jahre Präsident der sogenannten Eurogruppe. Die Finanzminister der Euro-Länder stimmten am Montag in Brüssel einer zweiten Amtszeit für den 48-Jährigen zu, wie der Europäische Rat mitteilte. Donohoe war der einzige Kandidat für den Posten.
Der Ire leitet das informelle Gremium bereits seit Juli 2020. In der Eurogruppe stimmen die bisher 19 Länder mit der Gemeinschaftswährung ihre Politik ab. Im Januar kommt mit Kroatien ein 20. Land dazu. Besonders wichtig war die Eurogruppe in der Finanzkrise ab 2008.
Während der Corona-Pandemie spielten die Finanzminister der Euro-Länder ebenfalls eine zentrale Rolle. Gleiches gilt für den wirtschaftlichen Abschwung, den Experten wegen des russischen Angriffskriegs in der Ukraine erwarten.
Sein Amt als irischer Finanzminister gibt Donohoe voraussichtlich Mitte Dezember ab. Er soll im Zuge einer Regierungsumbildung in seinem Heimatland Minister für öffentliche Ausgaben werden.
