Scholz reist zu EU-Westbalkan-Gipfel nach Tirana
Die Staats- und Regierungschefs der 27 EU-Mitgliedstaaten sowie von sechs Ländern des Westbalkans treffen sich am Dienstag in der albanischen Hauptstadt Tirana zum EU-Westbalkan-Gipfel. Zu dem ersten Treffen dieser Art in einem Balkanstaat reist auch Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD, Pk 15.30 Uhr). Vor dem Hintergrund des russischen Angriffskriegs gegen die Ukraine geht es um die Stärkung der Beziehungen zu Albanien, Bosnien-Herzegowina, Kosovo, Nordmazedonien, Montenegro und Serbien.
EU-Angaben zufolge soll das Treffen die Aussicht auf einen EU-Beitritt aller sechs Länder "unmissverständlich bekräftigen und zu einer Beschleunigung der Verhandlungen aufrufen". Weiteres wichtiges Thema ist die Begrenzung der Migration über die Balkanroute, über die seit Jahresbeginn so viele Menschen irregulär in die EU kamen wie zuletzt 2016. Angesichts der Energiekrise will die EU ein Subventionspaket im Umfang von einer Milliarde Euro bestätigen und als wichtigster Handelspartner der Westbalkanstaaten einen Investitionsplan über 30 Milliarden Euro für die Region präsentieren.
