Stoltenberg fordert Südkorea zu Waffenlieferungen an Ukraine auf
Nato-Generalsekretär Jens Stoltenberg hat Südkorea aufgefordert, die Ukraine militärisch stärker zu unterstützen. Es bestehe "ein dringender Bedarf an mehr Munition" sagte Stoltenberg am Montag nach einem Treffen mit hochrangigen südkoreanischen Beamten in Seoul. "Wenn wir an Freiheit, an Demokratie glauben, wenn wir nicht wollen, dass Autokratie und Tyrannei gewinnen, dann brauchen sie Waffen", betonte er.
Südkorea solle sein Exportverbot von Waffen in Konfliktgebiete überdenken, fügte Stoltenberg hinzu. Auch Deutschland und Norwegen hätten ihre langjährigen Grundsätze, keine Waffen in Konfliktgebiete zu liefern, nach Russlands Angriffskrieg auf die Ukraine geändert.
Südkorea spielt global als Waffenexporteur eine immer größere Rolle und hat kürzlich Verträge mit europäischen Nato-Mitgliedsstaaten wie Polen über die Lieferung von hunderten Panzern unterschrieben. Bislang unterstützt Südkorea die Ukraine humanitär, Waffenlieferungen hatte Seoul mit Hinblick auf die eigenen Gesetze bislang abgelehnt.
Stoltenberg sagte bei seiner Rede am Chey-Institut in Seoul, Putin kaufe aktuell Waffen von Ländern wie Nordkorea und bereite sich auf noch mehr Krieg vor. Es sei extrem wichtig, dass Putin diesen Krieg nicht gewinne. Sonst laute die Botschaft an autoritäre Führer auch in Peking, "dass man durch Gewaltanwendung bekommt, was man will", sagte er weiter.
Auf seiner aktuellen Asienreise, die Stoltenberg auch nach Japan führen wird, will er die Beziehungen zu demokratischen Verbündeten in der Region im Hinblick auf den Krieg in der Ukraine und den Wettbewerb aus China stärken.
