EU-Ukraine-Gipfel findet in ukrainischer Hauptstadt Kiew statt
EU-Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen und EU-Ratspräsident Charles Michel nehmen am Freitag in Kiew an einem EU-Ukraine-Gipfel mit dem ukrainischen Präsidenten Wolodymyr Selenskyj teil. Dabei wird es nach Brüsseler Angaben unter anderem um den ukrainischen EU-Beitrittsprozess, die Reaktion der EU auf den russischen Angriffskrieg und die weltweite Ernährungssicherheit gehen. Am Ende soll es demnach eine gemeinsame Erklärung geben. Die Ukraine ist seit 2022 offiziell EU-Beitrittskandidat.
"Die Tatsache, dass dieses Gipfeltreffen in Kiew stattfinden wird, ist ein starkes Signal sowohl an die Partner als auch an die Feinde", hatte der ukrainische Ministerpräsident Denys Schmyhal im Vorfeld gesagt. Von der Leyen war bereits am Donnerstag mit 15 anderen Kommissionsmitgliedern in der ukrainischen Hauptstadt eingetroffen. Dort kündigte die Kommissionschefin neue Sanktionen gegen Russland noch in diesem Monat an.
