Bildungsministerin Stark-Watzinger reist nach Taiwan
Zum ersten Mal seit 26 Jahren besucht ein deutsches Kabinettsmitglied Taiwan: Bundesbildungsministerin Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP) bricht am Montag nach Taipeh auf. Ziel des zweitägigen Besuchs ist es laut ihrem Ministerium, die Kooperation mit Taiwan in Wissenschaft, Forschung und Bildung zu stärken. Schwerpunkte seien die Themen Halbleiter-Forschung und Fachkräfteentwicklung, die Forschung zur Nutzung von grünem Wasserstoff und der Ausbau der Kooperation in der Batterieforschung.
China reagierte empört auf die Reiseankündigung. Die chinesische Botschaft teilte dem Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) mit, es sei bei den zuständigen deutschen Behörden "großes Missfallen zum Ausdruck gebracht" worden. Taiwan steht unter wachsendem Druck durch Peking. Seit der Spaltung zwischen China und Taiwan im Jahr 1949 betrachtet Peking die Insel als abtrünniges Gebiet, das es wieder mit dem Festland vereinigen will - notfalls mit militärischer Gewalt.
