Französischer Journalist nach 711 Tagen Geiselhaft durch Dschihadisten freigelassen
Nach 711 Tagen Geiselhaft ist der in Mali entführte französische Journalist Olivier Dubois freigekommen. Dies sei eine "enorme Erleichterung", teilte die Organisation Reporter ohne Grenzen am Montag mit. Frankreichs Präsident Emmanuel Macron dankte dem afrikanischen Land Niger per Twitter für seine Vermittlungsbemühungen.
Dubois war im April 2021 im Norden Malis entführt worden. In einer Videobotschaft erklärte er später, von einer Dschihadistengruppe entführt worden zu sein. Der 48-Jährige solle demnächst in Frankreich eintreffen, teilte der Elysée mit. Dubois lebte seit 2015 in Mali und arbeitete unter anderem für die Tageszeitung "Libération". Er war die letzte französische Geisel, die von einer nichtstaatlichen Gruppe festgehalten wurde.
Entführungen kommen in dem westafrikanischen Land häufig vor und betreffen auch internationale Organisationen. So waren kürzlich zwei Mitarbeiter des Roten Kreuzes und ein Arzt der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) freigelassen worden. Große Teile des westafrikanischen Krisenstaates werden nicht von der herrschenden Militärjunta, sondern von dschihadistischen Milizen und kriminellen Banden kontrolliert.
Im vergangenen Sommer hatte die Militärjunta den Abzug der französischen Soldaten durchgesetzt, die seit neun Jahren in dem Land stationiert waren, um dschihadistische Milizen zu bekämpfen. Ein Teil der französischen Soldaten wurde ins benachbarte Niger verlagert.
