Baerbock betont vor Reise nach Nordmazedonien EU-Perspektive des Balkanlandes
Vor ihrer Reise nach Nordmazedonien hat Bundesaußenministerin Annalena Baerbock (Grüne) die EU-Perspektive des Balkanlandes betont. "Der Platz von Nordmazedonien ist ebenso wie der unserer anderen Partner des westlichen Balkans in der Europäischen Union", erklärte sie am späten Mittwochabend in Berlin. "Dass wir es ernst damit meinen, daran dürfte spätestens seit dem offiziellen Beginn der Beitrittsverhandlungen mit der EU im Juli 2022 kein Zweifel mehr bestehen."
Es gehe für Nordmazedonien um eine "Zukunft in der europäischen Familie, um eine Region mit stabilem Wohlstand und Frieden, um Selbstbestimmung", erklärte Baerbock weiter. Sie warnte zugleich davor, das "wir die Mazedonierinnen und Mazedonier für Europa verlieren könnten, wenn wir als EU ihre Erwartungen enttäuschen trotz aller Fortschritte und teils schmerzhaften Zugeständnisse, die sie in den vergangenen 17 Jahren gemacht haben".
Baerbock kommt bei ihrem Nordmazedonien-Besuch in der Hauptstadt Skopje unter anderem mit ihrem Amtskollegen Bujar Osmani und weiteren Regierungsmitgliedern zusammen. Zudem will sie am Donnerstag Vertreter der Opposition treffen. Anschließend reist sie weiter in die georgische Hauptstadt Tiflis. Auch dort will sie nach eigenen Angaben "deutlich machen, dass Deutschland voll und ganz zur europäischen Perspektive Georgiens steht".
