Baerbock trifft am Freitag Staatsspitzen Georgiens
Bundesaußenministerin Annalena Baerbock (Grüne) besucht am Freitag die Kaukasusrepublik Georgien. Nach Angaben des Auswärtigen Amtes trifft sich Baerbock zunächst mit Vertretern der georgischen Zivilgesellschaft und dann mit ihrem Kollegen Ilia Dartschiaschwili. Um 11.30 Uhr Ortszeit (8.30 Uhr MEZ) ist eine gemeinsame Pressekonferenz geplant, zudem stehen Gespräche mit Staatspräsidentin Salome Suribaschwili und Regierungschef Irakli Garibaschwili auf Baerbocks Programm. Auch ein Besuch an der Verwaltungslinie zur seit 2008 von Russland kontrollierten Region Südossetien war geplant.
Im Fokus der Gespräche sollen nach Angaben eines Sprechers mögliche Schritte in Richtung des Status' von Georgien als EU-Beitrittskandidat stehen. In Georgien waren Anfang März tagelange Proteste wegen eines umstrittenen Gesetzentwurfs zu einem "Ausländische-Agenten-Gesetz" entflammt. Die Regierung Garibaschwilis ging zunächst gegen die pro-europäische Slogans skandierenden Demonstrierenden vor, verkündete dann aber die Rücknahme des Entwurfs.
