SPD-Kandidat Josef gewinnt Stichwahl um Oberbürgermeisteramt in Frankfurt am Main
Der SPD-Kandidat Mike Josef ist zum neuen Oberbürgermeister von Frankfurt am Main gewählt worden. Der 40-Jährige setzte sich in der Stichwahl am Sonntag mit 51,7 Prozent gegen den CDU-Kandidaten Uwe Becker durch, wie die Stadtverwaltung mitteilte. Becker erreichte demnach 48,3 Prozent. Die Wahlbeteiligung lag bei 35,4 Prozent.
In der ersten Runde vor drei Wochen hatte der 53-jährige Becker, der seit 2019 der Antisemitismusbeauftragte der hessischen Landesregierung ist, mit 34,5 Prozent noch deutlich vorn gelegen. Josef kam in der damaligen Abstimmung auf 24,0 Prozent. Für einen Sieg bereits im ersten Wahlgang wäre jedoch eine absolute Mehrheit nötig gewesen.
Die Frankfurter Stadtpolitik war im vergangenen Jahr stark von Kontroversen über den durch Vorwürfe der Vorteilsannahme belasteten Oberbürgermeister Peter Feldmann (SPD) überlagert, der im November in einem Bürgerentscheid abgewählt wurde. Das Landgericht Frankfurt verurteilte ihn Ende Dezember zu einer Geldstrafe von insgesamt 21.000 Euro. Das Urteil ist noch nicht rechtskräftig.
