Die Schottische Nationalpartei (SNP) gibt am Montag die Entscheidung über die Nachfolge der scheidenden Partei- und Regierungschefin Nicola Sturgeon bekannt. Vor dem Votum der 104.000 Parteimitglieder, das am 13. März begonnen hatte, hatten sich alle drei Kandidaten - Finanzministerin Kate Forbes, Gesundheitsminister Humza Yousaf und die Ex-Ministerin Ash Regan - zu einem erneuten Versuch bekannt, die Unabhängigkeit Schottlands vom Vereinigten Königreich zu erreichen.
Sturgeon war vergangenen Monat unerwartet zurückgetreten. Die Bewerberin Forbes ist eine konservative Christin, die die gleichgeschlechtliche Ehe ablehnt. Regan beschwor im Wahlkampf die Einheit der Partei. Mit dem amtierenden Gesundheitsminister Yousaf stand ein Muslim und das erste nicht-weiße Kabinettsmitglied in Schottland zur Wahl.
