Die Militärjunta in Myanmar löst die NLD-Partei von Friedensnobelpreisträgerin Aung San Suu Kyi auf. Das berichteten die Staatsmedien in dem südostasiatischen Land am Dienstag unter Berufung auf die Wahlkommission. Die Nationale Liga für Demokratie, die bei den Wahlen 2015 und 2020 überwältigende Siege über vom Militär unterstützte Parteien errungen hatte, wird nach Angaben des Senders MRTV ab Mittwoch "automatisch als politische Partei gelöscht".
Staatlichen Medien zufolge war die Partei nicht, wie unter dem neuen, von der Militärjunta eingeführten Gesetz erforderlich, neu registriert worden. Die Junta hatte im Januar politischen Parteien zwei Monate Zeit für eine Neuregistrierung gegeben.
In Myanmar sollten in diesem Jahr zum ersten Mal nach dem Putsch im Februar 2021 Wahlen abgehalten werden. Gegner der Junta kritisieren, die Wahlen seien weder frei noch gerecht. Im vergangenen Monat kündigte die Junta allerdings eine Verlängerung des Ausnahmezustands in dem Land um sechs Monate an und verschob die ursprünglich bis August geplante Wahl.
Suu Kyis Regierung war 2021 bei einem Putsch abgesetzt worden. Das Militär rechtfertigte seine Machtergreifung im Februar 2021 mit Betrug bei den Wahlen im Jahr 2020. Seit dem Putsch sind mehr als 3100 Menschen getötet und über 20.000 weitere festgenommen worden.
