Richtungsweisende Parlamentswahl in Kroatien begonnen
In Kroatien haben am Mittwoch richtungsweisende Parlamentswahlen begonnen. Die Wahllokale öffneten um 07.00 Uhr. Zwölf Stunden lang hatten die 3,7 Millionen registrierten Wählerinnen und Wähler in dem EU-Land ab diesem Moment Zeit, ihre Stimme abzugeben. Sie entscheiden darüber, ob sie künftig weiter von dem konservativen Ministerpräsidenten Andrej Plenkovic oder seinem linkspopulistischen Amtsvorgänger Zoran Milanovic regiert werden.
Milanovic ist derzeit Präsident des Landes, seine Amtszeit dauert eigentlich noch bis kommenden Januar. Seine überraschende Ankündigung, erneut Regierungschef werden zu wollen, hatte den Wahlkampf seit März noch einmal spannend gemacht.
Plenkovics konservative Partei HDZ lag in den letzten Umfragen mit rund 30 Prozent vorn, der Ministerpräsident könnte sich damit eine dritte Amtszeit sichern. Die Sozialdemokratische Partei (SDP) kam in den Umfragen auf rund 20 Prozent, könnte aber mithilfe von Verbündeten Milanovic als Regierungschef durchsetzen. Die Opposition wirft Plenkovic weit verbreitete Korruption, hohe Arbeitslosigkeit, die höchste Inflationsrate in der EU sowie anhaltende illegale Einwanderung vor.
