Staatsanwaltschaft stellt Ermittlungen nach Flutkatastrophe in Ahrtal ein
Fast drei Jahre nach der verheerenden Flutkatastrophe im Ahrtal in Rheinland-Pfalz mit 135 Toten hat die Staatsanwaltschaft Koblenz ihre Ermittlungen eingestellt. Damit wird weder der frühere Landrat des Landkreises Ahrweiler, Jürgen Pföhler (CDU), noch ein weiteres Mitglied des damaligen Krisenstabs angeklagt, wie ein Sprecher der Behörde am Donnerstag der Nachrichtenagentur AFP sagte. Weitere Details will die Staatsanwaltschaft am Mittag vor Journalisten bekanntgeben.
Im August 2021 hatte die Staatsanwaltschaft in Koblenz Ermittlungen gegen Pföhler und das frühere Mitglied des Krisenstabs wegen des Anfangsverdachts der fahrlässigen Tötung und fahrlässigen Körperverletzung durch Unterlassen eingeleitet. Bei den Ermittlungen ging es um die Frage, ob durch anderes Handeln die Folgen zumindest teilweise hätten vermieden werden können.
Der Abschluss der Ermittlungen verschob sich immer wieder. Grund dafür war ein umfangreiches Gutachten, mit dem sich auch ein Untersuchungsausschuss des Landtags in Mainz beschäftigte. Starke Regenfälle hatten Mitte Juli 2021 katastrophale Überschwemmungen an Flüssen in Rheinland-Pfalz und Nordrhein-Westfalen ausgelöst. Viele Gemeinden, insbesondere im Ahrtal, wurden verwüstet. Mehr als 180 Menschen starben insgesamt, hunderte wurden verletzt.
