Kanzler Scholz trifft am 7. Februar US-Präsident Biden in Washington
US-Präsident Joe Biden wird Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD) am 7. Februar in Washington empfangen. Bidens Sprecherin Jen Psaki sagte am Donnerstag, bei dem Treffen werde die "russische Aggression gegen die Ukraine" zur Sprache kommen.
Der Besuch von Kanzler Scholz werde die Gelegenheit dafür bieten, die "tiefgehenden und beständigen Beziehungen zwischen den USA und Deutschland" zu bekräftigen. Dabei würden die gemeinsamen diplomatischen Bemühungen besprochen, Russland von "weiterer" Aggression gegen die Ukraine abzuhalten.
Wegen des russischen Truppenaufmarschs an der Grenze zur Ukraine befürchtet der Westen, dass Russland einen Einmarsch in das Nachbarland vorbereitet. Die USA, Deutschland und andere westliche Staaten haben Moskau für diesen Fall scharfe Sanktionen angedroht.
Allerdings ist unklar, wie weit die Bundesregierung zu gehen bereit ist. Insbesondere in der SPD ist die Frage nach dem Ausmaß möglicher Sanktionen umstritten. Das umfasst auch die umstrittene Erdgas-Pipeline Nord Stream 2.
Scholz ist seit seinem Amtsantritt als Bundeskanzler noch nicht in die USA gereist. Bundesaußenministerin Annalena Baerbock (Grüne) hatte ihren Antrittsbesuch in Washington Anfang Januar absolviert.
