Nachwahlbefragung: Partei von Regierungschef Karins liegt bei Wahl in Lettland vorne
Bei der Parlamentswahl in Lettland liegt laut einer Nachwahlbefragung die Partei des amtierenden, EU-freundlichen Ministerpräsidenten Krisjanis Karins vorne. Karins Mitte-Partei Neue Einheit kommt auf 22,5 Prozent der Stimmen, wie aus der Befragung nach Schließung der Wahllokale am Samstag hervorgeht. Die Vereinte Liste kommt demnach auf 11,5 Prozent, die Union der Grünen und Landwirte auf 10,9 Prozent.
Damit stehen die Chancen für den Regierungschef gut, von Präsident Egils Levits mit der Bildung einer neuen Regierung beauftragt zu werden. Zentrale Wahlkampfthemen in dem baltischen Staat mit rund 1,8 Millionen Einwohnern waren der Krieg in der Ukraine, die hohen Lebenshaltungskosten und der Wunsch nach einer Energieunabhängigkeit von Russland. Viele Menschen in Lettland befürchten angesichts des russischen Einmarschs in die Ukraine, dass auch ihr Land angegriffen werden könnte.
