Gipfel von mehr als 40 europäischen Ländern als Signal an Putin
In Prag sind die Staats- und Regierungschefs von mehr als 40 europäischen Ländern zu einem Gipfeltreffen im neuen Format zusammengekommen. Die Ziele der neuen Europäischen Politischen Gemeinschaft seien "mehr Stabilität, mehr Sicherheit, mehr Frieden", sagte EU-Ratspräsident Charles Michel am Donnerstag unter Verweis auf den russischen Angriffskrieg gegen die Ukraine. Von dem Gründungsgipfel des neuen Forums soll ein Zeichen der Geschlossenheit an den russischen Präsidenten Wladimir Putin ausgehen.
Gleichgesinnte europäische Demokratien bildeten mit dem neuen Forum eine "geschlossene Front gegen Putins Brutalität", erklärten die britische Premierministerin Liz Truss und der tschechische Gastgeber und Regierungschef Petr Fiala nach britischen Angaben. Der französische Präsident Emmanuel Macron äußerte die Hoffnung auf ein Zeichen der "Einheit" und eine "strategische Diskussion, wie es sie bisher noch nicht gab". Er hatte das neue Gesprächsforum angestoßen.
Hauptthemen des Gipfels sind die Sicherheitspolitik und Energiefragen. Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz (SPD) nannte das neue Gesprächsformat bei seinem Eintreffen auf der Prager Burg eine "große Innovation", die gut sei für den Frieden und die Sicherheitsordnung.
Zu der Europäischen Politischen Gemeinschaft gehören neben der Ukraine und den EU-Ländern unter anderem Großbritannien, die Türkei, die Westbalkanstaaten und die früheren Sowjetrepubliken Armenien und Aserbaidschan. Für die Ukraine ist Regierungschef Denys Schmyhal in Prag, Präsident Wolodymyr Selenskyj sollte dazugeschaltet werden.
