Bierhoff: WM nicht mit 2018 vergleichbar
DFB-Geschäftsführer Oliver Bierhoff will die bisher holprige WM in Katar nicht mit dem historischen Vorrunden-Aus vor vier Jahren in Russland vergleichen. "Wenn man da mal differenzierter rangeht, sieht man, was funktioniert und was nicht funktioniert. Ich sehe diese WM anders als die WM 2018", sagte Bierhoff im Interview mit MagentaTV.
Allerdings droht der deutschen Nationalmannschaft beim Gruppenfinale gegen Costa Rica (20.00 Uhr MEZ/ARD und MagentaTV) das erneute Scheitern vor der K.o.-Phase. "Ich denke nicht darüber nach, was passiert, wenn wir hier ausscheiden. Ich bin fest davon überzeugt, dass wir hier weitermarschieren, wenn die Mannschaft die Leistung abruft", sagte Bierhoff.
Wenn es allerdings erneut nicht für das Achtelfinale reichen sollte, "dann hat man die Zeit darüber zu diskutieren, was notwendig ist oder nicht", so Bierhoff und fügte an: "Wenn du gewisse Positionen neu besetzen willst, musst du bei den Zehn-, Zwölfjährigen anfangen. Deshalb ist für uns gerade die Nachwuchsarbeit sehr wichtig."
