WADA verteidigt Umgang mit Tramadol: "Nehmen uns Zeit"
Bald verboten, im Rahmen der Fußball-WM aber noch erlaubt: Die Welt-Anti-Doping-Agentur WADA hat ihren Umgang mit dem als leistungssteigernd eingestuften Schmerzmittel Tramadol verteidigt. "Wir nehmen uns ein bisschen Zeit, Tramadol in die Verbotsliste aufzunehmen, weil wir ein paar Formalitäten haben", sagte Olivier Rabin, wissenschaftlicher Direktor der WADA, in der ARD-Dokumentation "No Limits – Wenn der Fußball keine Grenzen kennt" aus der Reihe "Geheimsache Doping".
Man müsse sicherstellen, dass "überall auf der Welt in gleicher Form auf Tramadol getestet wird". Die WADA hatte angekündigt, das abhängig machende Opioid ab Anfang 2024 für den Gebrauch im Wettkampf zu verbieten. Bis dahin ist die Nutzung erlaubt, etwa bei der Fußball-WM in Katar.
Laut einer von der WADA geförderten Studie aus England wirkt Tramadol leistungssteigernd. Es werde zudem vor allem im Fußball, Radsport und Rugby "erheblich" genutzt. Der Weltverband FIFA hätte das Schmerzmittel im Fußball bereits verbieten können, wie es etwa im Radsport schon geschehen ist, die FIFA verzichtete aber auf diese Möglichkeit.
Zu WM-Beginn hatte ein Fund durch die katarische Zollbehörde am Flughafen Doha für Aufsehen gesorgt: Ein Mann war mit 1990 Tramadol-Tabletten im Gepäck festgenommen worden. Ob ein Zusammenhang mit der WM besteht, ist allerdings unklar.
