Pele gibt Entwarnung, aber Sorgen bleiben
Nach besorgniserregenden Nachrichten über den Gesundheitszustand von Brasiliens Fußball-Idol Pele hat der 82-Jährige höchstpersönlich ein wenig Entwarnung gegeben. "Ich bin stark, voller Hoffnung und setze meine Behandlung wie immer fort", schrieb der dreimalige Weltmeister in seinen Sozialen Netzwerken als Kommentar neben dem veröffentlichten medizinischen Bulletin.
In der letzten Verlautbarung vom Albert-Einstein-Krankenhaus in Sao Paulo berichten die behandelnden Ärzte am Samstag von einem "stabilen Gesundheitszustand". Es gäbe "keine Verschlechterung in den letzten 24 Stunden". Die Diagnose bleibt weiterhin Atemwegsinfektion.
Ebenfalls am Samstag hatte jedoch die renommierte Zeitung Folha de Sao Paulo geschrieben, dass die Chemotherapie gegen den im September 2021 entdeckten Darmkrebs nicht mehr anschlage, sich die Metastasen längst auf Lunge und Leber ausgebreitet haben, und den Ärzten somit nur noch palliative Maßnahmen, also schmerzstillende Medikamente einzusetzen, blieben.
Pele hatte sich am Dienstag ins Krankenhaus begeben. Zunächst hieß es, es sei planmäßig, um seine Medikamente neu einzustellen und die Chemotherapie zu bewerten. Der Weltverband FIFA bei der WM in Katar sowie viele aktuelle und ehemalige Fußballstars bitten seitdem um Gebete für "Rei Pele", den König unter den Fußballern.
