Tite: "Ende meiner Zeit mit der Nationalmannschaft"
Tite wird nach dem bitteren WM-Aus gegen Kroatien wie geplant sein Amt als brasilianischer Fußball-Nationaltrainer niederlegen. "Auch wenn es schwer ist, ich bleibe dabei: Das ist das Ende meiner Zeit mit der brasilianischen Nationalmannschaft", sagte der 61-Jährige nach dem 2:4 im Elfmeterschießen im Viertelfinale gegen Kroatien. "Wir sollten kein Drama daraus machen. Ich habe es lange angekündigt. Es gibt genug Leute, die mich ersetzen können."
Er sei "stolz" auf die Leistungen seiner Mannschaft in Katar. Für das unerwartet frühe Scheitern sei er der "Hauptverantwortliche", führte Tite aus: "Es geht nicht um Held oder Bösewicht - das ist Fußball, manchmal gewinnen wir, manchmal verlieren wir." Man müsse nun "willig sein, unsere Trauer zu teilen". Bereits im Februar hatte er seinen Rückzug zum Vertragsende am 31. Dezember angekündigt.
"Ich werde nicht lügen, ich werde nur bis zum Ende der WM bleiben", hatte er damals gesagt. 2016 übernahm er als Nationaltrainer die Nachfolge von Dunga und schaffte bei der Selecao nach Flavio Costa (1944 bis 1955) die zweitlängste Amtszeit. Bei Weltmeisterschaften scheiterte Tite mit der Mannschaft sowohl 2018 als auch 2022 im Viertelfinale, den einzigen Titel gab es 2019 bei der Copa America.
Gespräche mit potenziellen Nachfolge-Kandidaten will der brasilianische Verband erst ab Januar führen.
