Die deutschen Hockey-Weltmeister sind Sportler des Monats Januar. Die Nationalmannschaft um Kapitän Mats Grambusch setzte sich bei der Abstimmung der rund 4000 von der Deutschen Sporthilfe geförderten Athletinnen und Athleten mit 69,3 Prozent durch. Auf Rang zwei folgte Paraskifahrerin Linn Kazmaier mit Florian Baumann (20,7 Prozent), die bei der WM vier Gold- und zwei Silbermedaillen gewonnen hatten, Platz drei belegten die Rodel-Weltmeister Toni Eggert und Sascha Benecken (10).
Die Auswahl des Deutschen Hockey-Bundes (DHB) hatte sich am Sonntag in Indien im Finale gegen Titelverteidiger Belgien mit 5:4 im Penaltyschießen durchgesetzt und damit erstmals seit 17 Jahren wieder WM-Gold für Deutschland geholt.
