Leichtathletik: Sechs weitere neutrale Athleten aus Russland
Der Leichtathletik-Weltverband World Athletics (WA) hat sechs weiteren russischen Sportlern den Status als neutraler Athlet verliehen - wegen des Angriffs auf die Ukraine sind Athleten aus Russland und Belarus international aber weiterhin bei großen Meisterschaften nicht startberechtigt. Zudem ist der russische Verband RusAF wegen des Dopingskandals seit November 2015 gesperrt. Damit ist Russland in der Welt der Leichtathletik quasi "doppelt" gesperrt.
WA will auf der nächsten Council-Sitzung vom 21. bis 23. März entscheiden, ob die Doping-Sperre aufgehoben werden kann. Entscheidend dabei ist der nächste Bericht der unabhängigen Russland-Taskforce. Nur wenn die Doping-Sperre aufgehoben wird, will sich WA auch mit dem Russland-Bann aufgrund der Invasion in der Ukraine beschäftigen.
Im Jahr 2022 wurde 73 Sportlerinnen und Sportlern aus Russland der Status als neutraler Athlet gewährt - dafür müssen sie zahlreiche Anti-Doping-Kriterien erfüllen.
