Grijseels und Golla zu Handballern des Jahres gewählt
Nationalspielerin Alina Grijseels und DHB-Kapitän Johannes Golla sind Deutschlands Handballer des Jahres 2022. Das ist das Ergebnis der Leserwahl der Handballwoche. Rückraumspielerin Grijseels von Borussia Dortmund erhält die Auszeichnung zum zweiten Mal hintereinander, für Kreisläufer Golla von der SG Flensburg-Handewitt ist es Premiere.
"Ich bin sehr glücklich, mich in das Feld vieler großartiger Handballer einzureihen, die vor mir diese Wahl gewonnen haben", sagte Golla und sprach von einer "großen Ehre". Der Abwehrchef der Nationalmannschaft, der im vergangenen Jahr noch auf dem zweiten Platz landete, erhielt 5895 Punkte und ließ Vorjahressieger Niklas Landin vom THW Kiel (4275 Punkte) diesmal hinter sich. Dritter wurde DHB-Shootingstar Juri Knorr von den Rhein-Neckar Löwen mit 2250 Zählern.
Bei den Frauen landete Grijseels mit 5562 Punkten deutlich vor DHB-Teamkollegin Emily Bölk (1728/Ferencvaros Budapest) und Xenia Smits (1512/SG BBM Bietigheim). "Es ist schön bei einem Publikumspreis diese Anerkennung zu erfahren. Man spielt ja auch, um Menschen, Fans, Kinder zu begeistern, für den Handball zu werben", sagte Grijseels.
Die Wahl wird seit 1978 von der Handballwoche durchgeführt. Erster Sieger war der ehemalige Bundestrainer Heiner Brand. Torhüter-Ikone Andreas Thiel ist mit sieben Auszeichnungen Rekordsieger.
