Biathlon-WM: Herrmann-Wick und Doll führen Mixed-Staffel an
Die deutschen Biathleten starten ohne personelle Überraschungen in die Heim-WM in Oberhof. Wie der Deutsche Skiverband mitteilte, werden Vanessa Voigt, Olympiasiegerin Denise Herrmann-Wick, Benedikt Doll und Roman Rees das Quartett für die Mixed-Staffel am Mittwoch (14.45 Uhr/ZDF und Eurosport) bilden. Über 4x6 km hofft das DSV-Team zum Auftakt in der Arena am Rennsteig auf einen ersten Podestplatz.
Nach den überwiegend enttäuschenden Auftritten bei den Winterspielen in Peking und bei der WM 2021 in Pokljuka ist die Sehnsucht nach einem Erfolg im ersten Rennen groß. "Wenn es frühzeitig gute Ergebnisse gibt, macht das etwas mit einer Mannschaft", sagte Sportdirektor Felix Bitterling im SID-Interview: "Dann ist es wie eine Schneelawine, die anfängt zu rollen, immer massiver und stabiler wird. Es ist ein Ziel, dass wir in diesen Flow reinkommen."
Das DSV-Quartett gilt als Mitfavorit. "Die Mixed-Staffel ist das härteste Rennen überhaupt", sagte Bitterling am Dienstag. "Bis zu acht Mannschaften" seien "top aufgestellt".
Voigt, die sich in der olympischen Mixed-Staffel zwei Strafrunden geleistet hatte, äußerte sich optimistisch. "Wenn jeder seinen Part richtig macht, kann eine Medaille rausspringen. Ich habe mit der Mixed-Staffel noch eine Rechnung offen", sagte sie: "Da sind die zwei besten Frauen und Männer jedes Landes am Start, da kann alles passieren."
Der letzte deutsche WM-Titel in der Mixed-Staffel liegt sechs Jahre zurück. Damals holten die inzwischen zurückgetretenen Vanessa Hinz, Laura Dahlmeier, Arnd Peiffer und Simon Schempp in Hochfilzen Gold. In Peking landete das deutsche Quartett auf Rang fünf, in Pokljuka nur auf dem siebten Platz. Den bislang einzigen Wettbewerb in diesem Winter beendeten Rees, Doll, Sophia Schneider und Herrmann-Wick als Fünfte.
